Thus Glory Fades.

I've watched the sun set on my family too many times
I've seen my roots fallback then wither and die.
but we all suffer needlessly
and why should I be any different.

I've seen the weary, the desperate and the desolete.
I've asked them to tell me their burdens, I'll share their load,
but nobody calls out,
we all prefer to suffer in silence.

I've watched men fall from grace and lose their souls,
I've seen others strive for glory only to come up short,
but nobody will accept a helping hand,
though they've struggled in vein, at least they've tried.

I've watched people crumble under tyranny and crack under the strain,
I've seen our existence takes it's toll on many a tortured soul
but nobody ushers in change
we all strive for consistency.

I've stood in hope and shuddered in fear
I've seen some men play the rolls they were born to play and others breakaway
but when is enough enough?
We all march the beaten path.

I've seen people march strong and hold fast
I've watched men suffer for their beliefs
but when is the martyr a martyr?
We all seek a glory that will never fade.

I've heard the words of scholars and learned men
I've basked in the poetry of the streets
but when are our words true?
we all search for approval and acceptence.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I ruined my life with elicit substances
that slowed me down and shut me up.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I believe we're all searching for the same things,
warmth, safety and contentment or whatever love brings.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them we all lie and cheat and steal
but deep down we've all got some good in us.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I don't really know what’s out there
but I hope it comes to me sooner rather then later.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I wished my words were worth more
and that we should value each other.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them how unsure I was about everything
and how I've always wanted to escape.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them how I bow before no-one
this boy was raised way too proud for that.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I was still a boy
and being trapped in a man's body was no fun.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them that I've always longed for another
and I'm terrified I'll never find him.

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them I'm dishonest and deceitful, narcissistic and resentful
but then again isn’t everyone else?

If I could really talk to people,
I'd tell them my deepest, darkest secrets
just to watch them gasp!
